This guideline ensures fair usage among all members and maximizes the efficiency of the AI server in the lab.
Preconditions
If your program can run on the Ronin server, please use it. Ronin is a more flexible server designed for personal use.
Application submit
Due to the division of our team into two groups, the GPU server will also be split, with each group being allocated 2 GPUs. Members are expected to use only the GPUs assigned to their group unless no one from the other group has applied or there are remaining GPU resources, or special permission is granted by Prof. Cao.
Applications for GPU usage open weekly for the following week. For example, this week you can apply for usage from June 24 to June 30. Applications cannot be made for dates beyond the current application window. You may request usage for up to 7 days based on your actual needs. If your request exceeds 7 days, only 7 days will be allocated.
Applications must be submitted before each Friday. Late applications will be rolled over to the next week.
A maximum of 4 people can use the GPUs on the AI server simultaneously, with each person allowed to use up to 2 GPUs.
GPU allocation:
For each group, if
- 1 person apply : Two GPUs granted for the applicant
- 2 person apply: One GPU granted for each applicant
- >3 person apply: Two applicant will be selected based on their priority scores, while the rest will be placed on the waiting list.
How to apply?
- Submit your request on the website (https://datasciences.org/gpu-request/)
- Check your application status on the website(https://datasciences.org/gpu-application-list/)
- Check the website on Friday to find out the GPU allocation assigned to you(https://datasciences.org/gpu-allocation-list/)
Priority scoring
GPU usage will be determined by priority score, which is based on the following conditions. Priority scores will be obtained from these criteria:
- Special event reservation (priority score: 99)
Otherwise
- Waiting list from the last week(priority score:80-89)
Otherwise:
- Rule Breaking in past 4 weeks (priority score:-1)
Otherwise:
- Longest unused: longest unused will receive highest score (priority score:70-79)
Otherwise:
e: Deadline: Each publication is treated equally, while the impact factor and conference rankings are not considered. (priority score:60-69)
Otherwise:
f: Frequency and quantity of past usage: the less it was used in the past, the higher the score.(priority score:50-59)
If two person get the same score, the second lever criteria will be used for judgment
Special event reservation
A special event is defined as an important deadline or event. GPUs may be reserved for these special events, which have the highest priority. Below is a list of special event reservations. During a special event, 1-2 GPUs will be reserved for each group. If you believe your task qualifies as a special event, please email the administrator, who will submit the information to Prof. Cao for approval.
- NIPS 2024 Author Rebuttal: July 30 – 6 Aug 2024(Anywhere on Earth)(2GPUs reserved)
Rule Breaking
If you anticipate having more than 24 hours of idle time, you can notify the system administrator -Wenfeng. The system administrator will allocate your GPU resources to another person during the proposed time slot, and you will regain access to the GPU after this period.
If your GPU idle time exceeds 24 hours without prior notification, this will be considered a rule breaking.
If you finish the task ahead of schedule, you can notify the system administrator will assign the resource to other person based on the priority score
Rule Breaking will result in the following penalties for the next four weeks:
- Your priority will be the lowest (Special event reservation excluded).
- You will be allowed to use only one GPU (Special event reservation excluded).
Running management
If your running program exceeds the requested time by 9 hours, unless you reach an agreement with the user for the following week, your program will be terminated.
Software install with the admin role required
The “sudo” admin role will not be assigned to any individual. If you need to install software that requires admin privileges, please submit your request to the system administrator, who will assist with the installation.
Rebooting
If you need to reboot the server, please raise your request to system administrator, the administrator will consult everyone before scheduling the restart time. All person will be notified in advance by email.
Other Resource management
Each person is allocated 300GB disk space, if you need more disk space, please submit your request to the system administrator with special explanation. Please note that our total disk space is only 12TB. Therefore, kindly compress your files or delete any unnecessary files on the server.
CPU/Memory management: If you do not have GPU usage permission, you are not allowed to use the CPU to run algorithms.
Data Backup: please regularly back up important data to your own PC.
The system administrator will allocate resource usage on Monday morning.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the system administrator.
Terms Changes
Please adhere to the principle of fair usage and help maintain a good learning and research environment. These usage rule may be adjusted based on actual circumstances.
